FIRST SPACE HOTEL OPENS DOORS IN 2025

Orbital Assembly announced the completion of a hotel project including two space stations due 2025. Voyager Station, the first space hotel previously designed to host 280 guests, increased its capacity to 400. The company also shared designs of a smaller space station Pioneer Station to host 28 guests.

Orbital Assembly CEO Rhonda Stevenson says the space travel is planned from four days to as long as two weeks and claims: “This depends on the guests budget as well as the ability to cope with the space environment”.

Both Voyager and Pioneer Space Stations make use of artificial gravity just like “water in a fast spinning bucket”. The space hotel simulates gravity as a spinning bucket that holds water in it. According to the information in its website, Space Voyager’s artificial gravity degree changes according to spinning speed.

Both stations look like two giant wheels physically. Voyager Station’s core hub serves as a shuttle reception area as well as operational and control center. Orbital Assembly Operational Director and Architect Tim Alatorre says the artificial gravity function determines the station’s system and engineering of the structural elements. Decreased gravity effect leads to designs that call for fun activities for guests such as bouncing like a basketball.

Pricing has not been announced yet but the expenses are high. The project team believes as space tourism expands, expenses will drop down to regular voyage levels.
