MILAN DESIGN WEEK (SALONE DEL MOBILE) PREPARATIONS

Salone del Mobile, the world's largest furniture and design fair, is usually held in April. However, March is the month when giant brands (Hermès, Prada, IKEA, Vitra, etc.) and famous designers leak/announce to the press their new collections, installations, and sustainable material innovations that they will exhibit in Milan.

The event basically consists of two main parts:

• Salone del Mobile: The official furniture fair held at the massive Fiera Milano (Rho) exhibition center outside the city. The world's biggest brands and designers present their new collections here to professionals (architects, buyers, press).

• Fuorisalone: A collection of events spreading beyond the fairgrounds into the streets, historic buildings, courtyards, and old factories of Milan. Hundreds of free exhibitions, installations, and events are organized in design districts like Brera, Tortona, Isola, and 5Vie.

Highlights:

• Trendsetting: The color, material, and form trends of the coming years are shaped here.

• Sustainability: In recent years, recyclable materials, designs that reduce the carbon footprint, and eco-friendly production techniques have been the most important focus of the week.

• Global Gathering: Not only furniture but also technology, fashion, and automotive giants (Apple, Hermès, Audi, etc.) organize special exhibitions during this week to show the importance they attach to design.
