İstanbul Municipality announced that Karaköy Parking Lot is being rebuilt underground and the cleared area will be redesigned as a municipal square for art events.
İstanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu spoke on behalf of the municipality explaining about the clearance of Karaköy Parking Lot: “This is an attentive work for İstanbul. It is an indication that when we work together to create new ideas we can achieve the best results. The unbuilding process has begun and it will last for two and a half years.”
İmamoğlu informed about the construction: “The project has been undertaken to move the parking lot area underground so that it will continue to function. For the residents’ good there will be art and culture events in a 7000 meter square space inside such a crowded part of the city.”
İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu added, “The project has been undertaken by the owner company of Galataport from clearance until rebuilding phases. It will be completed in 2.5 years and be handed over to the municipality. İBB will keep on managing the parking lot and have all the rights for the square. This is a partnership for the best of all residents. We hope it will be completed rapidly. İstanbul is in a hurry; in need of recovery and regeneration.”
