Located in Istanbul's İstinye Park, the BOSS store stands out with its sustainable facade design produced using innovative 3D printing technology.
This curved storefront facade, created in collaboration between BOSS, Ippolito Fleitz Group, and technology company Aectual, is made from recycled waste materials, reflecting an innovative and circular design approach. The project brings the intricate details of the brand’s elegant woven fabrics to life on the facade using 3D printing technology, making the building a standout feature in Istanbul’s busy commercial architecture.
Compared to traditional construction methods, 3D printing offers high levels of detail and customization while also prioritizing environmental sustainability. The BOSS store’s facade covers 73 square meters and consists of 136 uniquely printed pieces, which come together seamlessly like a puzzle. The facade design not only provides visual dynamism but also offers functional benefits by interacting with natural light to create ever-changing shadows. This interaction adds another layer of interest to the building, making it a prominent feature in the urban environment.
Aectual and BOSS maintain their commitment to sustainability with this project. The facade, made entirely of recycled bioplastic materials, offers an environmentally friendly solution with less material waste and a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional construction processes. This project showcases the potential of 3D printing technology to deliver innovative, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing architectural solutions.
