The 18th Istanbul Biennial, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), will run from September 14th to November 17th, 2024. British writer and art historian Iwona Blazwick will assume the role of curator for this edition.
Recognized as the most comprehensive international exhibition in Turkey and the surrounding region, the Istanbul Biennial holds a vital position in introducing contemporary artists and artist collectives. The 18th Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), will feature Iwona Blazwick, a British writer and art historian, as its curator.
Curator, art critic, and academic Iwona Blazwick was recently appointed as a curator for the Royal Commission in AlUla. She served as the director of Whitechapel Gallery in London from 2001 to 2022 and held various roles at esteemed institutions like Tate and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. Blazwick has curated numerous solo and group exhibitions for modern and contemporary artists from around the globe and commissioned artworks for public spaces. In addition to her work in the UK, she has independently curated research exhibitions and public art programs in Europe, the US, Japan, and China. Recognized for her contributions to the arts, she was honored with the Order of the British Empire by the Queen in 2007 and received the Officier des Arts et Lettres in France and Officer of the Star of Italy in Italy.
The 18th Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), will have its official opening on September 14, 2024. Prior to the biennial's general opening, there will be preview days on September 10-11-12-13, 2024, exclusively for press members, and on September 12-13, 2024, for art professionals.
