The first phase of the Urban Design Competition, organized for Taksim Square and announced last March, has completed with the participation of 146 projects. Within the competition that was opened by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the selection committee is working on the process that is expected to be completed in September 2021.
It was announced that the first phase of the Taksim stage of the Urban Design contest opened by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was completed on 25 July.Following that, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said that the selection committee is working on the projects. In the previous announcements about the Taksim Urban Design Competition, where all designers were invited to participate, it was stated that each of the 20 projects that pass the first stage will be paid 5,000 Euros, and that the three designs to be selected from the second stage will be awarded 50,000 Euros.
In the statement made after the first stage, it was conveyed by the IPA Competitions Coordinator Ömer Yılmaz that 146 applicants will be reduced to 20 at the end of the jury selection and 3 equivalent awards will be determined by making a colloquium on September 26 with the award ceremony. In addition, the details of the public voting to be held in cooperation with the Istanbul City Council of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality were shared.
