SAMSUN MUSEUM OPENS ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIC

Designed by CAA Studio and under construction in Samsun for seven years, Samsun Museum will open its doors to visitors on October 29th, the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. This museum, which is the most comprehensive culture and tourism project ever realized in Samsun, draws inspiration from the waves of the Black Sea in its design.

The long-awaited Samsun Museum project, which has been under construction for quite some time, will be completed on October 29th, the 100th anniversary of the Republic, and will open its doors to visitors. Reflecting a modern museum concept and inspired by the waves of the Black Sea in its design, the museum will also reunite visitors with one of Turkey's most significant treasures, the "Amisos Treasures."

The construction of Samsun Museum, which was tendered in 2017 and to be completed in two years to coincide with the 100th anniversary of May 19th, which marks the start of the National War of Independence, had faced various setbacks and delays. It gained momentum last year when the contracting company changed, and the project reached a new stage. The museum is now scheduled to open on October 29th, the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.

This museum, the most extensive culture and tourism investment in Samsun, covers an area of 22,000 square meters. Currently the artifacts are transferring from the old museum to the new one. Inside the museum, a children's museum, storage rooms, laboratories, a book cafe, a restaurant, a guest exhibition hall, a conference hall, and green spaces are available.

Samsun Governor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zülkif Dağlı, who visited the museum, mentioned the changing perspective in museology. He stated, "Samsun Museum will be a modern museum. The concept of presentation has also changed. Here, we are reviving all the artifacts in our province, such as Bafra İkiztepe and Oymaağaç Höyük. We believe that our people will appreciate this multifaceted and rich approach to museology with a new concept. Samsun Museum provides a well-organized environment where visitors can observe all archaeological and ethnographic artifacts in the province. Thus, the 7-year longing will last. Starting from October 29th, our museum will be open to all enthusiasts."
