The 5th Istanbul Design Biennial, which was held by İKSV between October 15 and November 15 last year, announced that depending on the particular setup of this edition, the ‘activations’ consisting of the installations scattered throughout the city; the digital video series, the conversations and workshops happening around the projects will continue to evolve even after these dates, until the end of April 2021. Within the scope of the closing exhibition that will continue throughout April, the projects placed in different parts of the city can be seen until April 30.
One of the works of the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial that has scattered across different locations of the city is the “Microbial Fruits of Istanbul” project placed in Göztepe Özgürlük Parkı and realized by Orkan Telhan and elii architecture. The project is a platform that tells the complex histories of the Istanbul gardens from the perspective of microorganisms. Microbial cultures displayed on the platform are transformed into maturing microbial fruits and presented to visitors.
Projects placed in permanent locations within the scope of the biennial can be visited between 12.00-16.00 on weekdays until April 30. One of them is the drying and storage units named “Dry with Care,” which are placed in the Fenerbahçe Park Community Garden and bear the signature of Freddie Wiltshire and Billy Adams. The other is the “Sun Kitchen” project by Martí Guixé. Solar Kitchen, permanently placed in the santralistanbul Campus of Istanbul Bilgi University, is powered by an alternative energy source, the Sun, and the pieces produced by Guixé, inspired by the street food culture of Istanbul, equip the sun kitchen.
