TURKEY'S İş Bank Museum Opens Its Doors with a New Look
Serving in its historic building in Eminönü since 2007, the Türkiye İş Bankası Museum has reopened its doors after a comprehensive five-month renovation work.
The Türkiye İş Bankası Museum, which has reopened to welcome visitors again with a special exhibition for the 100th anniversary of İş Bankası, reflects both the architectural heritage of its location and the developmental heritage of the banking sector in Turkey. The curation of the museum is undertaken by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Doğan Çetinkaya, while the exhibition design has been carried out by Pattu Architecture. During the renewal process, the museum building and exhibition layout were modernized, and the content was enriched with new photographs and documents.
The museum's new exhibition layout spreads across two floors. On the ground floor, the establishment and development process of the bank is narrated alongside documents and photographs, while the upper floor addresses technological transformation, contemporary banking, and İş Bankası's social responsibility projects. The "Bank of Economic Independence" section on the ground floor showcases the bank's founding story, while the "Growth and Savings" section reveals how the bank promoted savings awareness in Anatolia.
Suat Sözen, Deputy General Manager of İş Bankası, mentioned the history of the museum, stating that the museum building was constructed in 1892 as an Ottoman post office and has been used as an İş Bankası branch since 1928. Sözen expressed that the renewed museum presents İş Bankası's century-long history to its visitors with a modern exhibition layout, emphasizing that the exhibition also features previously unseen photographs related to the İzmir Economic Congress.
