SAMSUN MUSEUM OPENS ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPUBLIC
Designed by CAA Studio and under construction in Samsun for 7 years, the Samsun Museum will open its doors to visitors on October 29, the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The design of the museum, the most comprehensive culture and tourism project ever carried out in Samsun, is inspired by the waves of the Black Sea.
The Samsun Museum project, which has been under construction for a long time, will be completed and open to visitors on October 29, the 100th anniversary of the Republic. Reflecting a modern museum concept and inspired by the waves of the Black Sea in its design, the museum will also reunite visitors with the “Amisos Treasures,” one of the most important treasures in Turkey.
The construction of the Samsun Museum, which was tendered in 2017 and aimed to be completed within 2 years for the 100th anniversary of May 19, had stalled due to various setbacks. Last year, after the contractor company changed, construction accelerated and the project reached an advanced stage. The museum is planned to open on October 29, the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
The museum, the largest cultural and tourism investment in Samsun, covering a total area of 22,000 square meters, is currently in the process of transferring artifacts from the old museum. Inside the museum, there are a children’s museum, artifact storage rooms, laboratories, a book café, a restaurant, a guest exhibition hall, a conference hall, and green areas.
Samsun Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zülkif Dağlı, who visited the museum, said, “The understanding of museology has changed. The Samsun Museum will be a modern museum. The concept of display has also changed. We are bringing to life all the artifacts in our province, such as Bafra İkiztepe and Oymaağaç Mound, here. We believe that this museology, created with a multifaceted, rich understanding and a new concept, will be appreciated by our people. The Samsun Museum has become a well-organized environment where all archaeological and ethnographic artifacts in the province can be seen. Thus, this longing that has lasted for 7 years is coming to an end. From October 29 onwards, all enthusiasts will be able to visit here,” he said.
