Collective Design Guide for Happier Cities

The Collective Design Guide, a product of the “kainak” project prepared by EKA Collect under the Accessible City Workshop (EKA), has been published. EKA, a collective workshop community that develops projects with creative individuals from various design disciplines, brought the “kainak” project to life, which aims to contribute to urban design and strengthen the sense of belonging to human living spaces. The Collective Design Guide published within the project contains various information about what collective design is and how to apply it.

“kainak,” which stands for “people belonging to the city, city belonging to the people,” explores various methods for involving people in the design and management of urban spaces in the Collective Design Guide and aims to present it as an easy-to-understand guide. The study includes more than 20 method suggestions and short exercises to guide collective design. In the guide, methods are classified according to the audience, number of people, budget, time, and place, and the steps to be taken for each method are explained in simple language. This aims to make strategy development and decision-making processes easier and more efficient by using the guide.

Creating environments that allow people to dream about cities and encourage them to propose solutions to urban problems facilitates collective design and strengthens the sense of belonging. In this direction, “kainak” encourages people to participate in the design and management of urban spaces. It also aims to raise awareness of collective design and plays a facilitating role in this process. Supporting democratic participation processes, the project also aims to raise awareness in this regard. By working jointly with stakeholders focused on collective consciousness, it strives to ensure that society has a say over the city.

The Collective City Guide, the product of this work, is a highly valuable initiative for people to build cities they will be happy to live in through their own participation. You can review the guide at https://www.yumpu.com/tr/document/read/65802336/kolektif-tasarm-rehberi.
