Aga Khan Architecture Award Winners for the 2020-2022 Period Announced

The winners of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2020-2022 have been announced. A total of 6 valuable projects from 5 countries are among the winners.

This year, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture was held for the 45th time, and out of 463 projects nominated, only 20 projects made it to the shortlist. The jury awarded six projects from this shortlist that are promising for society, innovative, and environmentally conscious. The jury, consisting of Sibel Bozdoğan, Nada Al Hassan, Amale Andraos, Kader Attia, Kazi Khaleed Ashraf, Lina Ghomet, Francis Kéré, Anne Lacaton, and Nader Tehrani, selected the following 6 winning projects:

Urban River Areas / Bangladesh

Khondaker Hasibul Kabir, Suhailey Farzana

This community-focused project concentrates on reclaiming river and coastal areas, which have been inaccessible and unused, for public use in a city with a population of 250,000.

Rohingya Refugee Camp Community Center / Bangladesh

Rizvi Hassan, Khwaja Fatmi, Saad Ben Mostafa

The award went to six buildings constructed in the Rohingya Refugee Camp, one of the world's largest refugee settlements housing Rohingyas fleeing genocidal violence in Myanmar.

Banyuwangi Airport / Indonesia

Blimbingsari, East Java

The local airport, which avoids standardized international styles, adopts a design approach sensitive to content, nature, and people.

Argo Museum of Modern Art and Cultural Center / Iran

ASA North / Ahmadreza Schricker Architecture

This is the first modern art center built in Tehran after a very long time.

Renovation of the Niemeyer House / Lebanon

East Architecture Studio

The renovation of this magnificent house designed by Oscar Niemeyer, but whose construction was left unfinished, is highly praised.
