The 2022 European Cultural Heritage Awards Made Us Smile
The winners of the 2022 European Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards have been announced. The Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum also shines among the award winners.
The 2022 European Cultural Heritage Awards, considered the most prestigious award in Europe in its field, announced 30 winners from 18 European countries this year across 5 different categories. The Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum in Bayburt, which is not part of the EU Creative Europe program but has a significant cultural heritage achievement, won the Europa Nostra Award in the category of “Citizen Participation and Awareness Raising.” This museum aims to preserve and revitalize the cultural heritage of Bayburt and Anatolia by offering visitors interactive experiences designed in collaboration with the local community. The awards will be presented to the winners at an award ceremony on September 26 in Prague, held at the newly restored State Opera.
Regarding the awards, European Commission Member Mariya Gabriel stated: “I warmly congratulate all the winners of this year’s awards for the outstanding quality of their work and their openness to innovation. 2022 is a very special year as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the EU Cultural Heritage Award, which has become the most important award for the European heritage community. Most of the awarded initiatives demonstrate the tremendous interest and participation of young people in our heritage, history, and cultural identity, which is even more meaningful this year as it is the European Year of Youth. I would also like to extend our best wishes to the two Ukrainian awardees. Creative Europe, which co-finances the awards, represents promoting culture and creativity in building inclusive and cohesive societies based on our core European values.”
Europa Nostra Executive Board President Prof. Dr. Hermann Parzinger evaluated the awards as follows: “This year’s awardees are the strongest examples showing how our cultural heritage reconnects us with nature, helps create a sense of belonging and place, and is an integral part of developing a circular economy that supports a sustainable and inclusive way of life. I congratulate the winners for their outstanding initiatives and commend the professionals and dedicated individuals for their praiseworthy work.”
