Iwona Blazwick Became the Curator of the 18th Istanbul Biennial
The 18th edition of the Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), will take place from September 14 to November 17, 2024. The curator of the 18th Istanbul Biennial will be the British writer and art historian Iwona Blazwick.
The Istanbul Biennial, the most comprehensive international exhibition in Turkey and the region, plays an important role in introducing contemporary artists and artist collectives. The 18th edition of the Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), will be curated by the British writer and art historian Iwona Blazwick.
Curator, art critic, and academic Iwona Blazwick was recently appointed as a curator for the Royal Commission in AlUla. Between 2001 and 2022, Blazwick served as the director of the Whitechapel Gallery in London and held various positions at prestigious museums such as Tate and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. She has curated numerous solo and group exhibitions of modern and contemporary artists from around the world and commissioned public artworks. Blazwick has also independently curated research exhibitions and public art programs in Europe, the USA, Japan, and China. For her contributions to art, she was honored with the Order of the British Empire by the Queen in 2007 and holds the titles Officier des Arts et Lettres in France and Officer of the Star of Italy in Italy.
The general opening of the 18th Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), will be held on September 14, 2024. The preview days of the biennial have been announced as September 10-13, 2024 for press members and September 12-13, 2024 for art professionals.
